Add a little self challenge if you please

I have been in a mental slump. Not a creative slump but I felt as though things weren’t moving as well as I would like them to be and no matter what someone tell you, you are the worst critic.

Sometimes life happens I get that, but in retrospect, it always does. Life doesn’t stop or give you a break because you can’t take it. No life is really crappy and hard and being an adult with constant worry and responsibility is all part of the fun. But how we decide to embrace those life challenges and how we react to it will either stop you or fuel you to carry on.

For my well being I needed to get away for a while to gauge things and reset. So, back in November I went to the UK to clear my head, meet some old friends and ultimately get some perspective about my life and the direction I wanted it to go.

It was an amazing experience, and if you have never gone alone on a trip I advise it highly. It shakes your core and wakes you up! And the wonderful thing about going alone is that you don’t have to wait for anyone and if you want to go somewhere you can! lol

While there I explored and thought long and hard about all I had done everything I wanted to do so far with my own personal goals and ambitions. But I also realized that I was not challenging myself in the correct manner.

What do I mean? well I put my self in constant states of stress adding more and more projects to keep my head spinning, but what was I doing to grow creatively on a personal level?

We all are looking for that almighty dollar yes, but what are we doing to help that on our own scale of things? Are we improving our craft? or are we simply regurgitating what we already know and can do well?

If you are good at what you do then why change it? It’s not about changing it. More like it is a continual flex and practice so that you can make it better!

So I decided that no matter how busy I get I will always make time to challenge myself daily to improve.

Whether it is sketching once a day for yourself or writing a poem or page in your book or walking everyday etc. It is about fine tuning the you to make a better version of yourself.

We can easily get lost with work and responsibilities. But it is also our job to maintain our core so that we always shine bright even when the world isn’t.

You will be happier and the ones you love will see it and feel that too. SO what you do as a personal challenge for yourself will make you better and keep the creative juices flowing and flexing that ever present muscle.

2019, New year new me? Why I am laughing all the way into the New Year

2019 its upon us. So now you have all these big aspirations and plans right? This year will be different.. this year you are going to lose that weight, eat better, change your job blah blah blah. Sound familiar?

Well, if all you do is get up in the morning and live another day and say you made it then far be it from me to judge you.

We don’t have to aspire just because its a new year, if anything now is the time of reflection. Time to see how far we have come. Pat yourself on the back instead of beating yourself up for all the things you didn’t do. The year has gone by and things have changed. You have changed. Think about the loved ones you met the people around you who impacted your life and made it better. Think about the choices you’ve made and the life you are living now.

The future is the future, it is another day that you haven’t been to yet and you can most definitely change it if you want to, but its up to you and only you and no one can tell you how to get there or what you need to do. Only you can. All these superficial things we worry about are not important, they are time wasters, destroyers of happiness, total bullshit.

Be happy now and in the moment of your day and if you decide you would like to change something, do that and let it be personal to you. Those are the victories that mean anything. The ones that you keep and the ones you decide whatever time of year in which you want to do that. Never mind the stupid photos you see on social media of all the people supposedly doing something… in a month they will have given up just like they do every year. Trust me on that I have seen it a thousand times. I can see it now everyone in march (being generous here) asking to cancel there memberships lol.

SO, be kind to yourself.  No one cares at the end of the day what it is you have done because it is not them, care about it because YOU want to do it because it matters to YOU. If anyone sees it and praises you, bonus! But otherwise stop worrying about everyone else and what they are doing that you aren’t. People these days are so self absorbed it wont matter in a month anyway.  Instead just be kind, be thoughtful, don’t hurt anyone and live your life that makes you happy ❤

Persistence is the winner

Often times we think we cannot win in some situations, we don’t have the right tools or the right education or even money to get where we think we need to go.

But not all is lost. We have our persistence that goes far beyond any of those boundaries. Its continued efforts are not so forgotten. If we really want something worth fighting for then education or classification of status is easily surpassed with dedication and fueled passion.

Here is some pearls of wisdom by Alva Folkes that I stumbled across while reading some of her blog: You may not be as experienced, as well funded, as well connected, as talented, but you can always outthink, out hustle, and outwork everyone else. The extra mile is a vast, unpopulated wasteland–everyone talks about the extra mile, but few people go there.

You may not be as experienced, as well funded, as well connected, as talented, but you can always outthink, out hustle, and outwork everyone else. The extra mile is a vast, unpopulated wasteland–everyone talks about the extra mile, but few people go there.
Even when everything else seems stacked against you, effort and persistence can still be your competitive advantages–and they may be the only advantages you truly need.
Power is energy and makes things happen in a good way. – Alva Folkes.

SO when in doubt remember this because it is true and we are indefinitely powerful enough to get what we want if we really want something bad enough!  SO go the extra mile even if you’re not getting paid for it because the return will be rewarded.TIP: People remember the person that did that little something extra because so few do!

TIP: People remember the person that did that little something extra because so few do!

Book smarts to get you a paycheck is not the correct way to live a full life, Passion is the gasoline that fuels our drive. If we love what we do then the amount of money we obtain is not the key to our happiness. Giving of yourself of your talents that are more rewarding than any dollar amount.

2016 The Year of Learning

“Learning has no past Wisdom is something that has to be discovered by each one, and it is not the result of knowledge. Knowledge and wisdom do not go together. Wisdom comes when there is the maturity of self-knowing. Without knowing oneself, order is not possible, and therefore there is no virtue. Now, learning about oneself, and accumulating knowledge about oneself, are two different things…A mind that is acquiring knowledge is never learning. What it is doing is this: it is gathering to itself information, experience as knowledge, and from the background of what it has gathered, it experiences, it learns; and therefore it is never really learning, but always knowing, acquiring. Learning is always in the active present; it has no past. The moment you say to yourself, “I have learned,” it has already become knowledge, and from the background of that knowledge you can accumulate, translate, but you cannot further learn. It is only a mind that is not acquiring, but always learning—it is only such a mind that can understand this whole entity that we call the “me,” the self. I have to know myself, the structure, the nature, the significance of the total entity; but I can’t do that burdened with my previous knowledge, with my previous experience, or with a mind that is conditioned, for then I am not learning, I am merely interpreting, translating, looking with an eye that is already clouded by the past.”-Jiddu Krishnamurti The book of Life

This past year has been one of the best years yet. I have learned so much about myself and about art. I have come to realize that the very foundation of all that matters is not the pay check at the end of it all, but the satisfaction of a job well done.

It isn’t about fame and being the best it is about being your own personal best. Better then you were the year before. I also realized just how powerful our thoughts are. We think of something we want and the universe brings it to us. It is the intelligence of responding to what is presented that makes experiences and learning. Sometimes we fall but we have to figure out what went wrong to direct us to the right path. That in itself is one of the biggest things I have learned. If things aren’t going the direction we want then a slight change in how we get to that goal is all that is required not to give up is to give in. And I am not one to accept that. I want to thank all of the people in my life who have made it worth living who have presented these wonderful opportunities and created doors I only imagined.

I will move forward to 2017 with those memories and look forward to new goals I have set for myself and can’t wait to win some lose some and rise above and really learn!

For those who have helped me young and old, family and friends I thank you for the advice for the lending ear and just for everything. I am grateful for each and everyone of you. My kids and my wonderful circle of friends. And all of you who are reading this right now, thank you! Thank you for reading thank you for following and thank you for being you!
