Artists, you ready for the Busiest time of year?

Whether you are starting to feel the grind of the holidays starting to rise or not as an artist its always a good idea to be prepared. How can we get ready for the busy season and juggle the Christmas orders along with our own personal work?

Time is key! yes time. Time is an essential balance of what is priority and what is not. If you time how long a painting takes, for example a pet portrait painting you can make an allowance of that amount and etc.  This will help to get the projects done and allow for scheduling of multiple orders.  Take for an example a painting that is larger will take more time than a smaller one, or multiple pets in one painting will take much longer as well so allow extra time for those projects.

Another idea is to always inform your customer of how long of a wait they are looking at and in what order they are. So if they are anxious you can simply tell them when they are going to be able to get it and if you have the time to complete it before the rush and when they will be the next one to have an order completed.

I usually inform everyone on my Facebook page to please order early as time slots fill up quickly well before the season starts.

Remember too that if you have another job to include also a space for yourself as it will get to the point that if you don’t you will burn out and then you wont be able to do the work you promised which reflects badly.

Always remember that a lot of business is generated through word of mouth so make sure your character is intact to get the most out of this holiday season. I have already started to work on my Christmas orders and am thankful for my customers for being considerate and realize that it does take time to complete the paintings.

As entrepreneurs you must always look for ways in which to sell your talents. I suggest you share with friends and family to start and eventually those friends of friends will share and word will start to spread so that you become known for it and people will seek you out. This is a work in progress type of deal, no quick way to get more customers. It is all in how often you can produce the paintings for others to see and how well you do it.

Remember that there are so many styles of paintings so don’t ever be discouraged, someone will love your style! There is plenty of work for everyone.

Don’t ever give up. I started out with one or two paintings here and there and now I have to make a schedule because I have people asking that I don’t know. Which is nice, once you are known around as an artist you will find lots of interesting projects will find their way to you!

Time is not the enemy, make a schedule and stick to it. Things will go so much smoother if you do. Cheers!

Try new art things- for goodness sake!

I often get stuck in my own world creating late at night. The techniques I have learned are like second nature. But I find I get easily bored and tired of it. What do you do to keep things fresh?

I myself often get a flood of ideas of my own just by looking at other peoples artwork. Another fun way to get ideas is to go on Pinterest! what an amazing way to be inspired by looking at beautiful photos of landscapes, animals, other artworks, sketches, and more.

Once I have gotten an idea of what I want to do that I think hasn’t been done, I then decide how I am going to challenge myself to learn a new technique in painting or another art medium. Sometimes on the other side of fear is that new masterpiece!

I go out to art stores as well to see if there are any new products out that I can play with which is a wonderful way to try something new and get creative. If we make it a habit to try something different then we gain not only a new experience but also a new habit of expanding our knowledge of how things work or don’t work.

Everything is a lesson.

So in order to grow as artists we have to challenge ourselves to go above and beyond, because art is all about how we feel and how it showcases our talents of what we offer the world in our expression of it. And remember there are things that haven’t been done yet as an artist, so why not try and be the first!

Because once you get really good at something, in order to grow we have to do something we aren’t. Think outside the box as it were!

I hope you all are inspired to try something different!

What makes you Great?

I sit and think about what defines me what makes me unique about what makes me set apart from others and I ask myself…

What can I do to stand out, to make a difference?

Something that will make my kids proud of me. Then I really don’t have to think that hard. I am already. There is no one else like me. There is no one else like you. SO why do we feel like we have to be something we aren’t?

It’s one thing to become better at something to be the best self we can be, but to look at others and think why can’t I draw as good as them or paint as well? That’s wrong.  Perhaps these sabotaging thoughts have crept into your mind.

You want to stand out and yet there is thousands and thousands of us who paint and draw and they are all over Instagram Facebook and everywhere really.  Sounds depressing? No, it isn’t. You know why because everyone is different. And that is what makes you special.  We all have unique techniques to do something and guess what no matter how good you are, someone out there just won’t like it. But you know what is even better? Someone out there thinks it’s amazing!!!!

SO you are what makes you great!!! Keep giving of yourself your talents your gifts your best you and someone out there is going to recognize it and pay you, yes you!

The formula to being great is YOU! Giving back and contributing your passion for life and creativity is what the world needs. And if you come across something that you think may just change the way people look at the world then do that too.

Be kind love one another and see people as beings of light, not as any flesh form but souls who are renting bodies for awhile. Give your gift, put it out there for the world to see. People who are on the same plain as you will gravitate to you. You know whats even better? when you have a positive loving outlook towards everyone, you create an environment that gives you a chance receive that much more.

Reflect the position you want to be in.

YOU ARE GREAT

Something Different

night2

As an artist, I get bored easily with doing the same thing. I am always trying to do things that will challenge me to become a better artist. I wanted to do something that I felt would make me have to adapt to a challenge like this painting and make it my own.

Although it is not finished you can see that I have gotten the base down for my project and will show the final completed image once it’s done.

I find that going beyond what you are good at makes you learn different things that work and the things that don’t. I see things as I want to accomplish not as something I can’t do. Because really how do you know if you have never tried?

In a few day’s I will post the finished result which will be available for sale. This once it is done will not be an ordinary painting because I will be adding my funky touches to it to really enhance it and make it my own.  I hope it will turn out like I am envisioning but again everything is trial and error. And that is ok too if it doesn’t turn out how I imagined, then I learned something.

Tip: if you never go outside your comfort box you will never discover something new.
